Today, three generations of the Swindle family continue that tradition, offering a full range of jewelry services in Stephenville, Texas. From creating one-of-a-kind pieces to repairing cherished heirlooms, we take pride in helping customers celebrate life’s most meaningful moments with care, quality, and attention to detail.
Swindle’s Jewelry was founded in 1943 in Dublin, Texas by Grady “Big Red” and Gracie “Gus” Swindle. Starting with humble beginnings—living on just $1 a day in a small garage apartment—the couple built a business rooted in resilience and determination. During World War II, they opened a watchmaking school in the back of their store to help disabled veterans learn a valuable trade.
Grady, who lived with severe arthritis, and Gracie, who contracted polio at a young age, first met while attending watchmaking school in Wichita Falls, Texas. Their shared passion for the craft led not only to marriage, but to the foundation of a business that would span generations. Over the years, Swindle’s Jewelry expanded to multiple locations before settling in Stephenville, where it remains today.
Owned and operated by G.A. “Pinkie” and Hilda Swindle for over 40 years, the business continued to grow while staying true to its roots. In 2015, their grandson, Brit Van Zandt, took over Swindle’s Jewelry, carrying the family legacy forward with the same dedication to quality, service, and community.
